| Aeris Atmos Elite
The Atmos Elite is an air-integrated computer with a remote transmitter that screws into the first stage of your regulator, allowing it to also act as a pressure gauge. This means you can dive with one less hose. The computer updates itself on tank pressure at a rate of once every second so there's no need to fear any major, sudden corrections downward. If, like me, though, you have a natural distrust of technology, tracking something as crucial as tank pressure without something as tangible as a hose can take some getting used to. I can say, however, that after a few dives, it ceased to be an issue for me. And losing a hose, particularly if you're diving dry with an extra inflator hose already, can be a nice thing. This computer has other features as well that make it great for diving here in the northeast. It's worn on the wrist and is not the least bit bulky. Its face is large and its information well presented, making the entire package very easy to read and understand. And its two-button operation is also simple, even while wearing thick wetsuit mitts. Its alarms are both audible and visual, and can be turned off. Out of the water, you can change the batteries of the Atmos Elite in between dives without losing any of your data. In sum, the Atmos elite is a very good computer for diving here in the northeast. It's typical price range is $700 to $800 and you can get more information on it at www.diveaeris.com. Jerry Shine |
